Hey ya'll, here's where I'm keeping up with all of the voter questions I get. Share with a friend. Ask any questions you have. Let's GET OUT THE VOTE!

How can I verify that I’m properly registered to vote?

You can also verify that you’re properly registered to vote by visiting the Secretary of State’s My Voter Page and submitting your information. Vote.org also has an easy checker!

I registered to vote years ago. I don’t need to check my voter status. Right?

Wrong. Your voter status could be inactive since you last voted. Multiple reasons can trigger this inactive status, including your state’s attempts to keep their voter registration accurate, no response to an election postcard or letter, or not voting in the last two general elections. Please check your status NOW to allow time to re-register!

How do I find my polling place?

View a list of upcoming elections and registration deadlines on the Secretary of State’s election calendar. Locate your polling place by logging into the Secretary of State’s My Voter Page. You can also Google “Voting in _____” [Insert your particular state.].

What if I can’t vote on actual Election Day?

On Election Day, polling stations open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. If you can't vote during those times, you can either vote early or send in an absentee ballot.

What do I need to bring to my voting precinct?

When you arrive at your polling station, you'll need to bring a valid photo ID such as a driver's license, passport, or voter identification card.

I’m still a Georgia resident, but I’ve moved. What do I have to do?

If you move, you must file a notice of your new address in writing to your County Board of Registrar's Office or submit a new voter registration application.

What is the Voter Registration deadline?

OCTOBER 11 is the voting deadline (in-person, online and mail) for the upcoming election. For future, remember Georgia registration deadlines are the Fifth Monday before Election Day. The Register by mail deadline must be postmarked by the fifth Monday before Election Day. cc: Georgia.gov

What are Georgia’s qualifications and disqualifications as a voter?

You may register to vote if you are:

  • A citizen of the United States.

  • A legal resident of Georgia and of the county in which you wish to vote.

  • At least 17 1/2 years of age to register and 18 to vote.

You may NOT register to vote if you:

  • Are currently serving a sentence for a felony.

  • Have been ruled mentally incompetent by a court.

Can I vote in Georgia if I have a criminal record?

Yes, as long as you meet Georgia’s general voting requirements and IF you are not currently serving a sentence for a felony conviction. Once your sentence is complete, your right to vote is automatically restored. All you have to do is re-register to exercise that voting right.

Additional Clarification:

  • You are "off paper,” which means you’ve completed incarceration, parole, and probation.

  • You are serving a felony First Offender or Conditional Discharge sentence, and the status has not been revoked.

Can people in jail vote?

Possibly. You can vote if you are in jail because of a pending case or are serving a sentence for a misdemeanor conviction. But if you have been convicted of a felony and are awaiting transfer to a state prison, you cannot vote until your sentence is complete. To register and vote absentee, you will need an acceptable form of ID, which may require help from someone else.
